Teams (Re-Organization 2008)
The
Springfield Junior Football League has recently undergone some
changes that have resulted in changes of team names and how players
are assigned to teams. While we are still comprised of four teams,
those teams are now the Rams (previously Northwest Cardinals), Colts
(previously Northeast Cowboys), Southeast Packers, and Southwest
Bears. And while we used to assign players to teams by a regional
quadrant system, we have now gone to assigning players by school
boundaries. This means that players will be assigned to teams based
upon what school they attend.***
The changes that are taking place are due to the fact that we are
currently in the process of reorganizing and combining our teams
with the 6th, 7th, and 8th grade teams of the Springfield Youth
Football (SYF) League in an effort to create one unified cohesive
junior football program for the Springfield area. It is the desire
of both the Springfield JFL Board and the Leadership Team of the SYF
to double our efforts by working together to provide the youth in
the Springfield community with not only a quality football program,
but even more importantly with a safe, fun learning environment and
experience that will also help in teaching them important character
traits and values such as teamwork, integrity, commitment, respect
and discipline.
***For any player who played on a 7th grade team of either a JFL
or SYF team last year (i.e., will be an 8th grade player this fall)
and who according to the new school boundary system would not be
assigned to his team from last year, he has the choice of being able
to play for his team of last year, or to play for the new team that
he would be assigned to under the school boundary rule. Example: If
you played on the Packers 7th grade team last year, but according to
school boundaries you are supposed to be on the Colts team, you have
a choice of staying with the Packers for your last 8th grade year in
JFL or moving to the Colts.
New School Boundaries Information
Below, please find the list for the new school boundary system. Players should identify which school they attend, and register for the corresponding team it is listed under. Again, as explained above, returning players who will be in the 8th grade this fall have the option of staying with their team from last year, as we chose to phase in the new system.
